How to Filter Good from Bad?

How to Filter good company from bad companies?
Below are some of the pointers I use.

1. Has Competitive advantage
2. Owner is Major Shareholder
3. Constantly finding new product(s)/business to sustain growth.

Old Chang Kee is one such example.
Constantly bringing in new products and promotions. Curry Times is one of their successsful stories.

Below are some of their latest products and promotions.
Do try it if you passsby their stores the next time.

Want and Don't Want.

Went for a buddy's Wedding dinner last night. Had a good catch up with my long lost friends. Glad to see all my friends are moving on (better) in life.

After the wedding, few of us (those staying in the same area) went back together via Mrt. Otw back, we had some chats about life. I couldnt remember what topic we are in but one of friend suddenly pop-up this sentence "just keep working lo" and got me very worry.

I quickly ask her what do u mean by this? Because to me, this sound like she got no aim, 一天过一天 (everyday is just another day) which lead us to the topic of investing. In short, she mention she doesn't have spare cash to do investing. She don't know anything therefore never bother to start doing investing. She doesn't trust investment. Too high risk. In fact, she ended stating she is not interested.

Well, after listening, I feel sad. I just want to add on some points here.

Firstly, not enough cash. I need to clarify on this. Many youngsters thought that investing require a large sum of money which is totally not true. In fact, a sum of $1000 can keep u started. For example, you can buy a Unit Trust like "NIKKO Singapore Dividend Equity Fund" whereby it buys into a basket of Singapore listed companies. Moreover you also get monthly Dividend payout to your bank account. Or u can choose to buy into 500 shares of "Frasers Centerpoint Trust" whereby it pay 4x Dividend in a year and a possibility of capital appreciation. There are many other stocks and funds in the market. Above are just 2 exmaples to illustrate my point, not a recommendation to buy.

Secondly don't know anything about investing. I wish to clarify who started off with knowing everything? We go to school to learn from teacher. After which we go back home, we practice and do ten year series, past year papers jus to ensure we master the module and score in exam right? So what is the different? Basically, it comes down to  1 question, "你要不要而已(how dying you want to learn)”. Just like studying in school, the teacher can give u 100 times extra classes but if you got no heart to learn, end up you will still fail the exam.

Lastly, too high risk. By putting money in your bank, why not you buy into the bank? You see if u say investing is risky but if you put your money in the bank, if the bank doesn't do good, the bank will evetually close down and gone is your money. Isnt it high risk too? I always believe one rule and it goes like this "knowing what u are doing reduces the risk" chim right? Let me explain further with Riding a bicycle example. So if you know how to ride( respresent knowledge) a bicycle, the probability of you falling(risk) is lower, I m not saying you won't fall, you will still fall if there is a hole on the ground (bad event like terrorism attack) but at least we know that on normal road we wont fall thus reducing the risk significantly.

I would like to end the post with this.
The question I ask is, “What is holding you back from achieving your dreams?”
Is it just your mindset of not believing or simply no action from you? I can say alot of things and reasoning (input) but output really has to depend on yourself. I can't possibly go out there to Force you. 加油!

To our success,
Eric Khoo

General Finanical Update for Jan and Feb 2016

I have a habit of visiting my Facebook, Instagram, Caurosell and more every night before I sleep. Not sure if many does that too. And so i was scrolling through my FB and saw this.

Wording might be a little small but basically it says Noble was replace by Capitaland Commercial Trust as the 30 stocks representing STI. Not sure how many people are as happy as me. (Cos I m Capita Comm's shareholder.) Haha.

And so for some updates before I turned busy again. Nevertheless, please do visit my blog, I promise I will be more active. Haha

For Jan 2016, it was a quiet month for me. No Dividend was collected from my stock portfolio. If you had follow me for the past one year, you might have know I do have a Unit Trust portfolio which provides me a constant stream of Dividend every month. So for Jan 2016, I collected $284.70 from my Unit Trust. Also, I sold away my Jumbo and Capitaland Mall Trust for some profit taking.

As for Feb 2016, it was a little bit more interesting. Total Dividend collected from my stock portfolio adds up to be $871.91 and Unit Trust portfolio is $196.21. I also sold away 3 counters namely Mapletree Commercial Trust, SMRT and Lippo Mall. *regretted*

For ending, I would like to post this picture for closing. Hopefully after reading the post and with this picture, helps you to achieve some thinking within you.

To our success,
Eric

Super Coffee latest product, Essenso Microground Coffee.

Finally got my hand on Super Coffee latest product, Essenso Microground Coffee.

Firstly, I must say the packaging is really attractive and premium. Very nicely done.

Secondly, the Coffee is really nice. Not too sweet even for their 3in1. Coffee aroma is really catchy. After drinking, the coffee aroma still remain in the mouth/throat. Don't know for you, but for me, the coffee has an effect of making me wanna have a cup of its coffee whenever I see it.

Well.... Great product. Will recommend to friends if they need coffee packet in their office. well done Super!

New Old Chang Kee Outlet at Choa Chu Kang MRT Station. Replacing the old Pie Kia Outlet.

Old Chang Kee's wholly owned brand name "Pie Kia" located at Choa Chu Kang MRT station (retail under SMRT) selling mostly pies of different favour had give way to main brand Old Chang Kee.

Lately I walked pass the walkway toward MRT gantry and realise OCK decided to close down their only outlet under "Pie Kia" brand and convert to OCK.

Well. I think this is a good move as there are many crowd at this walkway especially during morning rush (ppl can take away for breakfast) and evening end work timing. I believe Revenue will definitely higher than "Pie Kia". Good move by OCK!

Opportunity is everywhere (Part 1): Latergrams Throwbacks to November 2015

Some "latergrams/throwback" to clear,
Finally manage to squeeze some time out to do these.

And so, lets Backdate to 15th November 2015,

Went Star Vista,
one of the malls under Capitamall Trust,
Had my lunch there, walk past this korean fast food and decided to give it a try. Some comments, chicken is nice, salad is quite catchy too however fries is rather cold.

As usual for one of my weekend,
#Cafewaitinglove, haha
And so i found this cafe, Cocoa Colony, design alittle similar to TWG, so I went in and had one of their signature drink (can't remember the name now) haha. Spent some good hours there with some finance update and reading.

And so xmas is around the corner, about one month away, well the mall is already designed with xmas deco n more. First xmas tree photo taken.

And finally to call it a day, ending with a selfie,
hopefully a good take, haha : )
And back to home sweet home.

Was told by my buddy about Nanyang Old Coffee below, some where in the mall, how can a coffee lover like me miss it?
And boom... 南洋老咖啡
不错喝。哈哈

Make our way down for dinner at Marina Square,
Some random shot taken, another xmas tree located at atrium.

20th November 2015,
A site survey day to Breadtalk iHQ at Tai Seng.
Ate Ding Tai Feng to support my own co (small shareholders la),
Seldom eat Ding Tai Feng at outside due to overwhelming crowds, I think this is my 2nd time eating it, totally loving it, 2 words to describe it, "World Best!!"

Even when I m writing this post now, my stomach is roaring even though I jus finished my dinner. Haha.

Level one of the Breadtalk iHQ is all homebrand companies owned by Breadtalk like Food Republic, Toast Box, Ramen Play and Ding Tai Feng.

Level two of the building are basically retail (although quite small), went walking after my meal, very satisfied, level two is fully lease out.

Took the lift up to level 7, just want to see how it looks like (since it is open to public), but I spent less than 10min or so there, Worrying I might got chase out by security.

Main Entry to their office, Breadtalk Group
Breadtalk Boss must be a paint lover, there is a room delicated to display all the chinese painting.

Took mrt back home from Tai Seng via Circle Line [which is under SMRT (shareholders too) ]
I Cant remember why I changed to purple line, (which is under SBS Transit = ComfortDelgro, not yet a shareholders, argh!! )

And finally back to Lot One Shopping Mall, one of Capitamall Trust mall (shareholders too), before you enter into the mall, you will be greet by a beautiful Xmas tree. Well, too nice to reject taking a photo of it. Haha.
